the great sammich mystery

Who here likes a sandwich?

Anyone?

Oh. Wait. We already covered the virtual hand-raising thing yesterday. Whoops!

Well, anyway, Mark and I love sandwiches. We could eat them every day for the rest of our lives. Just like good old Mexican food. We love them all: chicken sandwiches, ham, turkey, BLTs...you name it, we like it.

But we don't like sandwiches from home.

Can someone please explain to me, for the love of sandwiches, WHY they aren't as good when you make them in your own kitchen? I swear -- you could go to a little deli, and they could use the exact same ingredients, but theirs is way better.

And your pathetic sandwich from home is left to bite the dust crumbs from the Ultra Delish Sandwich that you bought for $4.50.

I think this is one of life's greatest mysteries: Why we would go to Subway, spend $6.89 on a meal of a turkey sandwich, a bag of chips, and a coke, when we have all the ingredients in our own kitchens.

Note: Especially because Subway charges more for JUST turkey than for ham AND turkey. That's right. If you get the ham & turkey sandwich, you save money. Why is this, you ask? Because they know that folks who are on diets will just opt for one meat. And they know they can make money off of this.

Yet you can find us in Subway 4/7 days of the week. We had Subway for lunch. It's a mystery, I tell you.

  1. My vote is the bread. Most places make their bread fresh, like Jimmy Johns or Subway, and it tastes so much better that way. Their bread is already better than what you can buy in a grocery store, and the fact that it is fresh makes it 100 times better.

  2. I loveeeee Jimmy Johns, but it's SOOO fattening. Holy cow. Even if you get a turkey sandwich with no mayo, it's still EXTREMELY fattening. You don't even want to know.

    well, if you do:

but beware. you'll never want to eat there again!

anyway, I agree. Their bread is heavenly. Subway's too. I also like the flatbread at subway. Mmmm.

  4. :) It's so good. Granted, I also really love Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich, which is like 10 times worse, so I never ever eat it. I *never* go to a fast food place. Except sometimes rarely Chick-fil-a. but.. I still love it :) mmm.

  6. Hi Shannon,
I came over from MckMama's. I see your name every now and again and had to come check you out, see I married a Cox myself. I'm Sara Cox. And after reading your blog a little we have a bit in common. For instance: We also have a dog named Piper. She is a miniture Schnauzer. My Hubby, Rob, also LOVES sandwichs, eats them everyday. And HAVE MERCY that taco hotdish looked SO good. Nice to meet you, I'll be back again.
