9 weeks

[Normally a photo would appear here, but I don't like my picture from this week. Sorry!]

How far along? 9 weeks 4 days

Total weight gain/loss: At the doctor, the scale said I gained 2, but I was wearing tennis shoes, so I'm going to say 1lb.

Maternity clothes? nope.

Stretch marks? no.. and hopefully they stay far, far away.

Sleep: gross. I hate sleeping.. It's the worst part of my day. I flip and flop all night long and am constantly awake. Then, as soon as I fall into a semi-deeper sleep, I have to get up to pee.

Best moment this week: Hearing our baby's heart beat

Movement: haha, no.. and not for a while!

Food cravings: I don't have cravings at all.

Gender: we can potentially find out in 5 1/2 weeks (at 15 weeks) through a private u/s local place.

Labor Signs: no..

Belly Button in or out? in, and it'll be in for a while!

Wedding rings on or off? on!

What I miss: drinking cokes whenever I want and the ability to eat lunch meat, even though I only rarely eat lunch meat anyway.

What I am looking forward to: feeling our baby kick, but I don't want to rush my pregnancy at all.. I'm trying to enjoy each week and cherish it.

Weekly Wisdom: um, invest in a doppler? they obviously work and it's a great experience.

Milestones: I guess my first appointment was this week! Is that a milestone? :)

More info: We've now known about Punkin for 6 1/2 weeks. Seems like forever to me! Earlier in my pregnancy, I was having serious problems eating. I only nibbled on food and nothing sounded good.. and it was a real struggle to actually eat. It's a weird thing, and maybe you can only understand it if/when you become pregnant. But lately, eating has become much easier, and I can now eat just about whatever I want. (Huge sigh of relief!) But that doesn't mean that I feel fine and dandy. Morning sickness arrived on Sunday morning. Not just s queezy stomach, but barfing my guts out. This morning I'm feeling pretty nauseated. Oh well, as I say: it's pain with a purpose! :)

this isn't my baby.

This week, Punkin's up to:

Punkin's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Punkin's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that Punkin's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

  1. Hehe! I was complaining last night to Chris about how I don't look forward to sleeping and actually dread it. Have I really not slept well my whole pregnancy? Sheesh!

And it is SO crazy to compare Pumpkin Seed to our baby, and how it seems like such a difference in development, but once they are both here, it won't seem like that at all. Does that make sense?

    Anyway! So excited for you!

  2. Yep! They'll just be 5 months apart, so they'll be doing the same things at the same time, for the most part :) Our baby will have a weird birthday, so I don't know if I should start them in the same "school year" as your son or not. If we do public school, our child will be a year behind your son.

  3. I never understood age cut-off's, so I don't know a thing about them! Probably because my birthday is in March so my parents never had to decide.

  5. It's October 1st basically everywhere you go. I would THINK even for homeschool, "they" (??) would want you to wait and not rush your kid in the school year. I have no clue how homeschooling and "grades" go. My birthday is September 18, and my parents had to make the decision to hold me back or let me go.. and I went early (at 3 years old) and was the youngest in my class. So I was 5 in the first grade. And graduated high school at 17. It isn't a huge deal, but in early grades, I would be "competing" (not really COMPETING..) with kids whose birthdays are in October and are nearly a full year older than me.. so they would be more advanced.

Ha, that's like a huge paragraph. sorry!

  6. No no no no... baby center wrote that paragraph. Sometimes baby center says "he".. it just depends on the week! Brittney will testify for me! it's baby center's fault!

  7. My niece Makenna was born Oct. 11th and my sister waited until she was 6 to start her in kindergarten. It was so much better for her because she was a little more mature and ready for it. But then again my sister in-law started my niece Melanie at age 5 for preschool. (but her b-day is Sept. 20)
It really depends on how they are maturity wise and that sort of thing.
You'll decide what's right for your child when the time comes. :-)
Hope that helps a little bit.
