the post where I use a lot of brackets

I haven't blogged since Friday! Sorry about that! I have reasons.. well, kind of.

Saturday was just absolutely prefect. After getting our Jeep's leaky valve fixed, we decided to take a trip to Norfolk to try out Qdoba.

[I would like to pause and note that when I have to type about food, my stomach literally turns and a giant wave of nausea comes over me. Okay then.]

There are so many restaurants in VA that don't exist in KY. Not sure if Qdoba is anywhere in KY, but we didn't have one near my hometown. It's sorta similar-ish to Moe's. I guess. Qdoba has different flavors of sauces. We both had the ancho chili burrito. It was good, but nowhere near Chipotle!

[On that note - if you want to start your own franchise in Kentucky, Chipotle is the way to go!]

Afterward, we made a sudden decision to go to the zoo! It was the first absolutely beautiful day we'd had - I was in shorts, flip flops, and a tank top, and I felt great! We weren't the only ones with this genius idea -- everyone in the Peninsula decided to go to the zoo as well! We waited in line forever, but the zoo is so big that everyone was dispersed, and we were able to have a great time.

[me at the zoo!]

Afterward, we came home to watch a couple episodes of Family Feud [we like to play along with game shows.. so much fun!] Then we decided to go on a picnic! Yay! We headed to Subway for the food [since we didn't have any bread, and I can't really have lunch meat anyway] - and I had the chicken anyway - and we headed to the big park behind us! There's a big lake where you can rent canoes and paddle boats and things, so we plan on doing that soon!

Sunday was.. eh. Church started out great! My twin, Amanda, made monkey bread for our ABF [Adult Bible Fellowship], and they were amazing! I've been trying to think of something to cook for my class, and all I can think of is breakfast casserole. But many people don't like casseroles, and I know that Amanda doesn't like sausage. So I'm torn. Anyhow, ABF was great, and everyone congratulated us on our little miracle! Everyone was also "relieved" [their words!] that once we all got pregnant, we would not be "kicked out" of the class. Hehe. [It's a nearly/newlywed class. None of us have kids yet, so we're kicking off the class in that direction!] But our teachers reassured us that we would all evolve together and have children together and stay together! Yay!

The sermon was great. Seriously, my face HURTS after church. I am not even joking. I smile so big during church for so long that my face hurts. HA! Our sermon was on Nehemiah 9 - the big gigantic prayer! And we covered the whole chapter! I've never been to a church where the pastor actually goes through a chapter each week and teaches you everything about it and relates it. It's pretty remarkable. We're pretty in love with our church :)

After church, we headed to the commissary, where I proceeded to get extremely exhausted and pretty nauseous. I came home, fell fast asleep, and slept for 3 1/2 hours. I woke up still nauseated. And was nauseated until I went to bed last night.

Then I woke up nauseated this morning. I keep having to to pause to collect myself and keep myself from throwing up. TMI? Well, this is my blog ;]

Enjoy your Monday!

  1. I just wanted to say that I love reading your blog! It takes me back to the days when my husband and I were just starting out in the Navy and having our first baby and trying to navigate our way through life! (Not that I am old now, just wanted to throw that in) I wish I could have stepped back and enjoyed life as much as you seem to do! BTW...I love Moes! I haven't had it in years though....we are on the West coast now and they don't have that here :)

  2. I think the nearest Qdobe was Nashville.

I love that our Pastor practices expositional preaching too. Systematically teaching through an entire text is so helpful. I am glad for you!

  3. Louisville has Qdoba, too. Actually, lots of them. But that's closer to us than it is to BG.

LOL @ your ABF! Like, seriously, when we were in Bryan's ABF at LHBC, *everyone* is *always* pregnant in there. It's so fun!

  4. Haha! About half of our ABF is married, and half is engaged.. so it will be a while before the engaged couples start having kids!

Qdoba isn't anywhere near as good as Chipotle. But it is pretty similar.. have you ever been there? Or have you ever had Chipotle? Chipotle marinates their meat, so it tastes SO good.. and all their meat is hormone-free and things, so it's very healthy. Chipotle just has a very very fresh, unique taste. Yummy!! The thing about Chipotle is that they don't have queso or anything. They don't have anything fattening except sour cream. I mean, Mark gets a HUUUGE burrito, but it's full of vegetables.. so it's pretty good for you! :)

  5. Cute post! At first when I read the title, I thought, "What, did Shannon make a bracket for NCAA basketball too, and it also went bust like a lot of people's?" but then I remembered lol.

How was the zoo? Did you see anything really interesting there? Ah, I love going to zoos!

I'm glad you had a good weekend!

  6. Oh, it was okay! It's the same zoo that I took my parents and Clayton to last fall. The VA Zoo doesn't have any "wet" animals (no polar bears, penguins, seals, etc.) and.. now that I think of it, no fish either. They just have land animals. But it's a beautiful zoo, I guess. And you walk up in this big 3 story thing and are able to see giraffes and elephants RIGHT there.. Like *SUPER* close. That part is pretty cool!

  7. I'm totally the opposite of you, Shannon! I've never been to Chipotle, even though I've been wanting to try it out for a long time, and I eat Qdoba almost once a week... but only because there is one right across the street from where I have class every day. I'm gonna have to get Ross to take me to Chipotle some time since you highly recommend it! :)

  8. I hope you get to feeling better. I'm thinking you should start feeling better between 16-20 weeks. It stinks not to be able to keep anything down. When I was pregnant with Nick, Malcolm was activated to Desert Storm. In my 4th month of pregnancy I lost 7 pounds. Worry, nausea, and stress kind of does that to you. When he got home I gained 11 pounds...and that's when we started coming to Living Hope. I tell lots of people it took a war for us to come back to church. Anyways, feel better, eat whatever sounds good to you until you get past this nausea. Praying it leaves you soon. So happy for you and Mark. You will be amazing parents. Karen Taylor
