get EXCITED! and stop yer whinin!

So, I graduate in one week. I'm not super pumped or excited. Prince M won't be here to see me walk the line or to take cute pictures with me. That really stinks. Also, I'm not getting the degree I intended to get. And none of my friends are graduating with me. I would much rather be getting a degree in Exceptional Education. Instead, I'm getting a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

But it's still a bachelors degree.

and I'm pretty excited about that.

So why, then, are all my Facebook friends crying about graduating college. Really?? You're sad to end the phase of your life where you:

pay out the wazoo for textbooks that you never use
have endless amounts of projects
pay to go to school
pay insane amounts of money for food on campus
walk in the most wretched weather conditions from one class to the next
have horrible parking conditions
walk up the hill. then walk down. then back up!
have finals?

seriously.

what is wrong with people?! Holy skittles, I can't wait to get out of college! I know, I know. Who am I to talk? I have picked the path that includes college... for the rest of my LIFE! No joke. Teachers go back to college a zillion times to get higher rank. Oh, and yes, I still intend on starting my masters in the spring at Old Dominion University. And I have decided, without a shadow of doubt, that I am going into Early Childhood Education. We all know I have an unhealthy liking for small children.

What am I saying? There is no such thing. Jesus agrees with me. Children rock. I'm sorry if you don't see the magnificence of a newborn, an infant, a toddler, or a preschooler! They are a gift from God. Straight from Heaven! What better way to spend my life than to be surrounded by little ones?! Finger paint, crayons, toys, first words, first teeth.. oh boy.. it makes you want to quit your job and do Early Childhood too, doesn't it?!

I sooooo can't wait to get on with my life! Come mid-September, I'll be (hopefully) settled in to Hampton, Virgina. We'll be going to the beach. Flying kids*. Frolicking with the butterflies.

Erm. Right.

Okay. We'll more likely be unpacking a zillion boxes. Buying a GPS to navigate our new town. We'll be scouting the area for great restaurants, fun activities, and a brand new church! But we will be going to the beach. And we might frolick around a little bit too.

Oh, and most of all: we will be blogging about it all the while! Can you wait? I can't! I might possibly run down the aisle, knock people over, and rush up on stage to get my diploma. I am ready. Ready freddy. Ready teddy. Ready.

And you didn't think for one measly second that I could make a post and not include a nephew of mine, didja? Let's hope not. If so, I would be a tad worried aboutcha! Here is a short, but true, story from Christmas 2008.

Best Friends:

Who like to play with puppets
and make the donkey and shark kiss.
(aren't our lips cute? goshdarnit I love that boy!)

then decide that's too boring
so we decide the shark should eat the donkey.

The End.

*Yes. I really did type this. I caught it after I posted it. Hopefully we will not be flying any kids. If so, I'm afraid that social services might come! What I meant to say was: We'll be flying KITES! Yes, kites are much safer in the air than a child.

  3. Amen-I was SO over school and ready to be out. And the graduation line is completely overrated, but I am glad I decided to go ahead with it. Congratulations to you, it's a GREAT feeling to be done! And those pictures with your nephew are, as always, hilarious and adorable.
