Things I love Thursdays

We all love music, don't we? All different kinds. Some good. Some bad. Some that don't deserve to be labeled as music. My favorite music comes from 88.1 - Wayfm, which just so happens to be the first batter up for Things I like Thursdays... particularly Mornings with Brant.

He is absolutely hilarious. Today we they talked about pick up lines relationship starters that could be useful in church. My personal fav: Hey, how would you like to be part of my Purpose Driven Life!?

Brilliant.

When I was in the 8th grade, I decided that I would only listen to Christian music for the rest of my life. I took my Offspring, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears cds and threw them away. I realized at a very young age how music can affect your life. You may not realize it, but you can probably recall lyrics from your favorite 1995 song. Just like that. They're embedded in your brain, and they will never be forgotten. Unless you just have a bad memory. Ha. So, you should be careful what you listen to. I absolutely love WayFM, even if their music is a teeny tiny bit repetitive. And if they play the same commercials over and over and over. And if sometimes, when it's a tad bit cloudy or rainy, you can't get a signal because it's fully funded by donations & the signal's not too strong.

Next up to bat: The book Start Your Family: Inspiration for Having Babies

I have been cheating lately by reading the first 4 chapters skimming through this book before my trip to San Antonio [which is why I bought the book...]. I've mentioned it before, but I'm mentioning it again: this book is amazing. It looks at parenting from a Christian standpoint and places children on a different plane than buying a house or a new fancy car. It deals with all the criticisms that people will have when you decide to begin your family, such as, "You can't afford a child; You need to spend time with your husband first!!; You need to finish school; Kids are too much work - you will never sleep again; You're too young" ... and the list continues.

When Adam and Eve were first created, they were perfect. They were happy go lucky creatures that were hanging out with God in the Garden of Eden. They had everything they could ever want. And then God commanded them:

God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

I'll write more when I finish this book. If you're newly married, or even if you're not, you should take a look at Start Your Family. It discusses the miracle of life and the joys (and sorrows) of parenting.

Last, but not least, up to bat: Music for children.

Now I might be a little bit biased about this whole subject considering I've played clarinet for many years & did the whole All-district, Honors band, All-state dealio many, many times. But there is just something special and unique about teeny fingers playing or plucking an instrument. While it might be insanely difficult hard to get them to pay attention during lessons or practicing, the rewards can be sooo worth it! I can't wait to see what will come out of my little nephew playing cello. He will strengthen his work ethic, his attention span will grow, his mathematic skills will increase, and he will have an appreciation for something greater. I am a huge fan of the arts. There is more to life than football and basketball. Dance, art, and music are so very important - especially to children! Oh, how precious he is!

Now, what are your favorite things in life?!

  3. Shannon, thank you for the great write up of Start Your Family. But thanks even more for the sacrifices you and your husband are making on behalf of the rest of us civilians! May God bless you overflowing during your reunion and all the days beyond! May He give you strength and grace and courage. And may He protect and defend you both. We are so blessed to be protected by men like him!
